Summer In The City... by Preeti

Hello friends! We are back today with the last post for our Summer In The City June theme. This year we are focusing our challenges around music, and this one was one of Kim's dad's favourite songs. He loved playing 'Name the Band' and 'Name the Year' song games as their family headed out in the station wagon with the 8 track. **You still have a couple more days to get your projects linked up!!

Our June Dare is to challenge you to create anything dedicated to the SUMMER! Click the link below to listen to this awesome song.

Hi friends :) Preeti Datta (Dutt Preety) here. I'm happy & excited to be on the Emerald Creek Craft Supplies DT.

The theme for the June Challenge is "Summer in the City". It's really fun! You can interpret it however you like! There are still a few days left to participate, so please do join the challenge to win beautiful prizes!

For me, summer is the time for holidays, vacations, sunshine & cool fruity drinks. One happy memory from my childhood is that my mum used to make pineapple stews during summer and all of us used to love it! I've tried to capture that beautiful memory in my project :)

Today, I've created a Cute Greeting Card- "Hello Sunshine" dedicated to the summer season. There is a step-by-step pictorial of the process as well :)

Process:

Step 1: First, create the background by cutting a watercolour paper panel. Then, using bright & warm colours of distress inks & oxides, add colour to the background. Use the "ink smooshing technique" to dab ink onto the mat, spray with water & smoosh the paper onto it to get a splattery, inky, artsy and organic look. Dry between each layer & add colours till you are happy with the background.

Step 2: Die cut some pineapples & goggles from thick white cardstock

Step 3: Heat Emboss the pineapples with the beautiful embossing powders from the Baked Velvet- Sahara Kit. (Ink the die cuts with embossing ink, sprinkle the die cuts with the powders & heat emboss using a heat tool). I've embossed the pineapple base & the intricate top layer in different colours, to make the colours pop. Then heat emboss the goggles with the Aroma-Just Java embossing powder.

Step 4: Stamp "Hello Sunshine" onto the inky panel using a black ink. Then assemble & adhere the elements together. Use vellum behind the die cuts to make them stand out against the busy background. Use a strong glue and 3D foam tape to pop up the elements & panels (for extra dimension & interest)

Step 5: To embellish the card use adhesive gems

Step 6: In the end, adhere the panel to a neutral coloured card base.

Thanks a lot for your precious time :)
Stay Blessed!

Summer In The City

Hello all
I am back on the blog with a new summer themed project.

Start off by making a few clay shells using a silicone mould. When they have set, paint them with heavy gel medium and then sprinkle on the embossing powder. Repeat until the whole shell is covered.

Paint a wooden box in a sand coloured paint and then add a stencil over the top. Before the medium sets, sprinkle on the dirty sand embossing powder over and melt it with a heat gun. Repeat on all sides and then glue on the shells.

Decorate with moss, gems and pearls to finish.

Thank you for visiting!

Cathy

Welcome everyone! It's getting close to summer but some of us are feeling the heat already! And what do you do if it's Summer in the City (our Dare theme) - you go to the beach! How about a little tropical humor - Tropic Like It's Hot!

This is a very straightforward project done on the blank side of a postcard!  I stamped my image in the corner and then started embossing!

Seth Apter's Sand embossing powder was perfect for this, as were his Baked Velvet colors!

And the sun was courtesy of Paper Artsy Chalk Acrylics!

There is no wrong or right way - just get your embossing pen and start adding your colors to create a tropical ocean scene!

I added some birds and sentiment with paint pens. I also outlined some of the features of the stamp and added some Maize embossing powder to the sun.

You can see how shiny the powder is - so glossy! And the translucence let's you layer colors. I think it's ready to send back home in the mail!

Thanks for stopping by the blog here at Emerald Creek! I hope you'll play along with us and do some shopping - we DARE you!

Summer In The City

Hi everyone, this month the Emerald Creek Dares Challenge is an "anything goes" theme based on the summer, and the song Summer In The City.

I wanted to make something directly related to the inspiration "Summer in the City." I have created a small vignette of New York City, a wonderful place to visit any time of year, and most especially, the Statue of Liberty, which is an incredible summer tour destination.

I begin with a wooden vignette box. The inside is covered with a layer of white gesso and allowed to dry. I know that I will be using the translucent Baked Velvet powder in Agean Sea to create the sky, and want a clean base to best display the color. I begin with one layer of embossing powder on the back panel as well as the interior top and sides. The powder is heat set and then cooled. Once cool, I brush on random areas of embossing ink and add another coat of Agean Sea powder. These areas are heat set, manifesting a deeper color, adding interest and also perhaps representing wispy clouds.

The interior base of the vignette box is coated with embossing ink and covered with Deep Sea Baked Texture embossing powder. This powder is also translucent, but a much darker shade of blue/green. I thought this would be perfect for the waters that surround Ellis Island and NYC.

Once the backgrounds are complete, I begin work on the city skylines. I know I want to have at least a couple rows of buildings to give the vignette depth. Using pieces of skyline die-cut, I determine which sections will be in the foreground and which will set into the background. The pieces are cut to fit inside the vignette box. The background skyline is coated with VersaMark embossing ink; covered with Seth Apter's Eclipse Baked Velvet embossing powder, then heat set.

The foreground skyline is covered with Seth Apter's Chunky Rust Baked Texture embossing powder and heat set. Once cool, the pieces are set into the vignette box. I use a piece of wood dowel along the bottom edge of the first skyline to create a gap behind the piece. The second skyline also has a wood spacer to set it a distance in front of the first.

I like the shadow lines this creates as well as providing plenty of visual depth.

The Statue of Liberty chipboard shape is coated with embossing ink and covered with Patina Oxide Baked Texture, one of my favorites of Seth Apter's original release. The flame is first covered with Mirror Platinum then a layer of Ancient Amber Baked Texture is added to give the flame an authentic look. Lady Liberty is secured to the edge of the vignette box with a strong adhesive and set aside to cure.

The label letters forming the title "LIBERTY" are die-cut from Metallic Kraft Stock and adhered to the bottom rail of the vignette box with collage medium. I think this will be a fun piece to display and evoke memories of a wonderful experience.

I hope that you are inspired to play along with the Emerald Creek Dares challenge this month, we'd love to see what you've been creating with a summer theme. Be sure to add your link, if you dare.

Thanks so much for stopping by.
~Ann
