Flowers On The Wall.... by Cathy

Hello friends! We are continuing our year of song themes, and this month that song is Flowers On The Wall by the Statler Brothers.

Our May Dare is to challenge you to create a project that is inspired by flowers! Click the link below to listen to this awesome song.

Flowers On The Wall

Hello everyone! I've got a fun project for our Flowers Dare that you can really go crazy with! You could personalize these paper flowers in so many ways - my mind is exploding with ideas!

I first took a scrap piece of double-sided patterned paper and cut strips - mine are about an inch wide. You can make them as fat or as skinny as you want. You can even take your scissors and make the edges wavy if you want for a different affect. I kept mine straight.

Next, I started embossing, using a couple different colors on each strip. Some of these new Seth Apter powders are more translucent, but they change the coloring of your paper for a cool effect.

I went around the edges with Distress Ink and then started rolling them up, using matte gel on the inside of the strip. Then I took my small skewers, which I also embossed with one of the green shades, and glued them inside with some E6000 glue. You'll have to play around a bit to get them as full or as tight as you'd like. And you can clean up the excess glue to speed the drying time!

Once they're dry, tie them together with some canvas and rusty wire! Or embellish however you'd like! I could imagine making some really large ones that are attached to metal spikes or long, grungy nails for a steampunk bouquet! Or just plain white embossed with the translucent powders for a colorful display. Really easy to do and your kids can join in, too!

Thanks for stopping by the blog here at Emerald Creek! I hope you'll play along with us and do some shopping - we DARE you!
