Hello everyone! I have to tell you, this month's theme had me a little stumped - Ordinary Day.  Of course, we all like to think an ordinary day is just creating beautiful things all the time. This canvas started out purple and had crackle that didn't crack - it was a mess! So I took a bad idea and turned it into a grungy work of art! I guess it turned out to be an 'ordinary day' in the life of a mixed media artist!

I first covered the canvas with a scrap of paper bag that had a neat, vintage newspaper print printed on it. Then, I just started adding to it!

I tore a piece of beige tissue paper and applied olive oil to make it transparent (that's how I make my own vellum!) - it's on the right side and under my 50s girl. There's also a little tulle and some shredded cardboard from packing material on the side.

Black ink really adds to the grungy look. And Seth's Beeswax, Patina, and Rust powders take it over the top! These little plastic boxes are great for trinkets and take the embossing powders well! Just be sure to move your heat gun around or it might start melting. But that could look cool, too! And wire and rusty metal is always a plus!

Thanks for stopping by the blog here at Emerald Creek! I hope you'll play along with us and do some shopping - we DARE you!

Hello all

I am back with another project for Emerald Creek Craft Supplies this month. As some of you may know, i started my weightloss journey in March last year and to date i have lost 2st 2lb. However sometimes the weight does not come off for a few weeks and it is frustrating. So i created the motivation fairy as part of my motivation art journal.

I started off by using a StencilGirl (R) mask to add heavy gel medium to the page and then i sprinkled on Rocky Road Embossing Powder. It made me crave a Rocky Road bar so i switched to Dragons Egg for the next layer.

Then i added layers of Lindy's Magicals and let it all dry.

I added the stamps to the background and embossed them with Dragons Egg Embossing Powder.

I printed off a sheet of paper dolls and just cut out the pieces, Then arranged them on the page and glued them down. I then added little quotes to finish the page.

Thank you for visiting

Hi Everyone, this month the Emerald Creek Dares Challenge is inspired by the song Ordinary Day by Great Big Sea. When I listen to the song, it helps me to understand that one's state of mind plays a huge roll in the way the days unfurl. Each day can be filled with adventures or challenges, depending on how you look at it. I find myself best able to tackle whatever life throws at me by being as prepared as possible.
For me, this "preparedness" to ensure a positive frame of mind can take the form of a list, or a quick sketch of an idea that pops into my head, sometimes it's a thought or something inspiring jotted down on a piece of paper to be put to use when needed. I have created a small wrapped journal to keep handy which will hold all of these special things.
I cover an Eileen Hull wrapped journal base with handmade inked papers. On the short closure flap, I emboss a stamped image along the edge with Seth Apter baked texture in patina oxide. This powder creates the most wonderful finish, full of interest.
I want the inside to coordinate with the colors of the exterior and to have a soothing appearance. In order to create this effect, I partially stamp (with Versamark ink) using a script stamp along the paper. This is coated with the new Emerald Creek Allure powder in Iceberg
Iceberg is a gorgeous translucent powder in a blue aqua color. It is very fine and works really well on super fine images. When the embossing has cooled, I ink the paper with distress inks. The embossing creates a resist. I love the how the translucent color stands out against the background.
The album is assembled and mini notebooks and pocket folders are inserted. Now it is time to add the special details.

I coat some chipboard cuts with patina oxide embossing powder and heat set. When cool these are added in various locations.
Emerald Creek daisy brads are coated with embossing in patina oxide to coordinate and give a special finishing touch. I create a belt closure and add embossing to potions of the buckle.
I look forward to putting my mind at ease by having this journal in hand.
Perhaps you have been inspired by my take on this month's challenge? We would love to see your interpretation of Ordinary Day. Join the #ECMAR2019 challenge, if you dare!
Thank you so much for stopping by,
~Ann

Hello,
For the March challenge “Ordinary Day” I created a 5” x 7” coptic stitched journal/album. An ordinary day never has  to be boring when you have a journal to jot your thoughts and photos.
I hope you enjoy my project and will create something special using this adorable stamp and beautiful powders.
 Michelle :)

1.) The coptic hand stitched 5”x7” journal was created using two 5”x7” pieces of repurposed chipboard or book board covered with decorative paper. Add as many signatures (pages) as desired. The coptic stitch can easily be learned by watching YouTube tutorials. A sketch book could also be altered and used for this project.

2.) Tear three strips and emboss with White Cloud, Desert, and Eclipse Baked Velvet.
Glue strips to center of journal cover.

3.)  Stamp image with Eclipse Baked Velvet powder.  I colored image with a combination of colored pencils and the following embossing powders. Rustic Indigo Baked Texture, and Rusty Baked Texture.
I paper pieced the stamped image for added dimension. Attach finished image to center of strip trio using foam tape.

4.) Final touches were added using Aqua Splashes Molten Dimensions. I created the splash effects by randomly placing Aqua Splashes powder and heating.

Misc Supply List:

• Foam Tape
• Chipboard or Book board
• Tim Holtz Distress Ink Tea Stain

Ordinary Day... by Sara

Hello friends! We are continuing our year of song themes, and our March Dare is to challenge you to create a project that is inspired by an Ordinary Day, or maybe even your Best or Worst day!

Hello Hello! This month's theme- Ordinary Day, made me think of summer days with my boys. They love animals and a perfect day fr them is spent at one of the two zoos within driving distance of us. I have two projects to share today to help me document these days spent with my boys. The first project is this travelers notebook cover I received from an Etsy shop called By Shannon Green. It is completely heat resistant and customizeable. Perfect! I used both Eclipse and Lapis Lazuli embossing powders to give this cover a fun, summer feel with blues and greens.I stamped the Leafy Acanthus Background stamp from Quietfire Designs to add a fun texture and design element to my cover. And it makes the perfect home to store our insert documenting our summer adventures from 2018.

I then decided to start memory-keeping and to create a page in one of my summer inserts.
I used Saffron embosing powder to create a fun, easy border to set off my page
These photos are from my boys favorite petting zoo. The animals pretty much run free and the boys love to pet and play with them.
If you would like to see more of my process, you can check out the video on my You Tube channel HERE

Have A Lovely Day!
Sara
