Mom...It really is a Charmed Life

Some of my favorite memories and worst memories with mom are in the garden. (sometimes weed pulling felt like an excessive and endless chore) but harvesting was always the best time. So a Garden Lattice Card seemed like the perfect piece to create.

Some of my favorite memories and worst memories with mom are in the garden. (sometimes weed pulling felt like an excessive and endless chore) but harvesting was always the best time. So a garden lattice Card seemed like the perfect piece to create

For a quick overview of how the card came to be, it all started with Ice Resin. I was playing with the silicone molds from Prima, Vintage Art Décor Mould - Baroque 2, and the Resin. Trying to form all kinds of pieces with different finishes. {this will be another post later, but let me tell you I had fun} I really liked the small piece, so I grabbed my Latte & Pesto Alcohol ink and inked it up.

I also used my lattice stencil (the pictures are of the woodgrain stencil that started this technique) and sprayed it with Pewter and Vintage Photo spray stains, tapped off the excess ink than flipped it over and pressed it on my cardstock with a paper towel so the ink would be pulled away from the open spaces.

Then I thought a climbing vine of Floral spray Charms would finish of the project for the 'It's a Charmed Life' Dare on right now.

The Floral Spray Charms and Iris Stamp, Plus a vertical word stamp I'm testing the fonts for stamping before I upload them all, are from the Emerald Creek Collections.

It's a Charmed Life!

Mom...we love you for all you have done!

Mom's everywhere continue to inspire and uplift us. Even if it's not your own mom, the ability to nurture has moved women to reach out and help others, and there's probably a Mom out there who has help to guide and mold a piece of you into who you are.

Please take this Challenge to heart and create any project you can think of using Charms, Bling and other Embellishments

We love all of you Moms out there. Thank you for loving us back, even if we were less then
'Charm'-ing to deal with!

"You're beautiful - no matter what they say" - one of my favourite songs and message to all the ladies out there! Always remember that you are precious and doing a fantastic job at what you do and at how you do it!

Hello Beautiful....It's a Charmed Life is our next Dare Challenge

So let's honor our mom's or the ladies in our life and let them know
how beautiful and charming they are

It's all about the ladies for this challenge. So I decided with Mother's Day right around the corner, that I would create a fun Mother's Day Easel Card. To all the Mother's out there, Happy early Mother's Day!

Challenge is all about ladies... I created this journal spread keeping this brave lady in my mind, she designed her own life, she is a charming lady!

The time is flying by it seems and Mother's Day is just around the corner again and it's time for a new challenge at Emerald Creek Dares!! I love spending Thursdays sharing some amazing Emerald Creek products and incredible inspiration from the Design Team, with all of you who stop by. At the end of my post there is a more personal note about my Mom and missing her and a poem my son wrote for her service.

Some of my favorite memories and worst memories with mom are in the garden. (sometimes weed pulling felt like an excessive and endless chore) but harvesting was always the best time. So a garden Lattice Card seemed like the perfect piece to create. Pop over to the post for a little more details

Dun Dun Duuuun.....The Tartan Card!

It is Done!

Sometimes I think I need to shut my brain off. Why I felt the need to pursue the Tartan absolutely escapes me.

It's Finished.

I started with the Clearly for Art Modelling Film by Wendy Vecchi of course. (It seems to be my favorite medium). Then I grabbed Studio 90 Texture paste and spread it over the film and used my Ranger Texture tool #4 to create the grooves one direction. Then I used the backside to drag down lines in a cross pattern to create a basic weave idea. A little spray stain and drying time. then some Distress paint over the film and more drying time. Now here's where I ruined a few attempts. First i painted the backside, too solid. Then the mini lines, too messy. Then a few lines of  colour on the front, plus silver cross lines and a blend of distress crayons on the back. The Colour is a little too dull and flat so a layer of Clear Gloss Embossing Powder (by emerald creek) mounted on white card stock and...WOOO HOOO success.

then came the hard part, what am i to do with a purple, green and yellow tartan? I know pull out almost every piece of paper to layer and head in a horribly disorganized direction. STOP. Rewind. The tartan looks good vertical but I can't finish it off. How about horizontal?

I like that, ooo and I have some Tim Holtz, Idea-ology washi tape with music I can use to fasten the tartan to some Old Paper Coredinations Distress. It needs a mat. Pumice Stone Paper. Perfect.

Maybe not..

A sheet of Purple from Stampin up. for the folded backer done. Nope, maybe add a black mat. Something is still missing. How about another cream layer. FINALLY!

Lets start to assemble.

Now I'm on a wave of my Scottish heritage now, I can here bagpipes BUT i don't have a stamp of those, I do have a violin stamp and charm.

Hmmm the violin stamp is too small. Humming Bird with Music notes (by emerald creek), Perfect!

Now Flowers, the state flower is a thistle...Okay?! Wait I have some ancient dried flowers from the Eighties, Yep there are some thistle looking things.

Hot Glue some dried flowers from the set my mommy gave me,

Some additional Filigree Leaves (by emerald creek) and more Eighties dried flowers and Violà... We have success!!

I'm not sure what occasion I will use this for so I have left the sentiment off for now.

And that's a wrap on this crazy gals, crazy challenge.

Blossoms and Butterflies by Sara

Sara's Back

to blog with us and we couldn't be happier with her use of the 'Fallen Blossom' by Nicole Wright.

With Spring upon us, Mother's Day fast approaching, and life in general whirling by, Sara reminds us to stop and smell the flowers!  Or a least colour some , while we wait for flowers to bloom in Canada's Province of Alberta.

Sara is treating us to an amazing canvas full of layers and textures. (She's delightful!)

Words from Sara:
"I'm honored to be back at Emerald Creek Dares again as Guest Designer!  This time I made a mini canvas using Nicole Wrights's lovely "Fallen Blossom" stamp set to be the focal image of my design. You can pick up a set of these versatile stamps at  the Emerald Creek shop.  I also used Emerald Creek's sparkly Easter Parade embossing powder on my flowers and butterfly, and their Ammo Camo embossing powder for my branch. I hope you'll pop by my  blog  to see more close up photos and read about how I put together this spring time canvas

I would like to thank Kim and the Design Team for allowing me to join them these past 2 months! I've felt very welcome and enjoyed every minute of it. I hope you'll take a minute to browse Kim's shop; you'll be so happy you did!'

Check out Sara's Post and her many awesome creations over the past while. We have truly been honoured by Sara and her willingness to share her talents with us.

Thank you so much Sara, for Guest posting our products and for the delightful friendship that has developed. I know we will be seeing you around blog-land lots.and I hope one day, in person too.

Big Hugs!

National Tartan Day, Heck ya! Anything Goes

So yesterday was National Tartan Day in Canada...

which made me think, I want to try and make a tartan. So after the third attempt I have figured out MOST of the techniques from trial and error and I think I have it. But it needs a little more drying time because in "Kim" fashion, I'm using the Wendy Vecchi Clearly for Art to work on, which means no heat and longer  drying in order for it to stay flat.

So here's a sneak peak while it dries, and you will have to check back or follow Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or Instagram to see what unfolds over the week.

Now your Challenge is 'Anything Goes". Grab what ever inspires you and run with it!!

To Give you inspiration we let Guest Designer Nicole Wright lead the pack. (she is here so Shilpa could have some needed family time for the next few weeks. Please welcome Nicole to the team temporarily and pop by Shilpa's blog just to say Hi!

Who doesn't love an Anything Goes Challenge!

Hey everyone, Nicole here and I am guest blogging with the Emerald Creek Dares Team today!  I am thrilled to share with you my project using some fun new techniques using the distress crayons, burnt copper embossing powder and stamping with Fallen Blossom.  Stop by my blog for a full tutorial.

I used the "anything goes" theme to finally lay my hands on the lovely Emerald Creek whaleoctopus and compass rose stamps and create an ocean routes (or a pirate's?) map with them. The water and continents were made using Brushos. And my son loved this map so much that I got a kiss as a reward for my efforts. Ain't I a happy mom?

I created a "Life is a Dream Tag" reminded me of Spring.
Spring always brings on new life in nature.
Spring always makes me smile.
I decided to try a cool technique using Emerald Creek Embossing Powder along with inks, markers and of course a fabulous stencil.

I created a vase trio from some thrifted glass vases - perfect for cut flowers from my garden.
I love Spring and the feeling of renewal & rebirth. Just like the flowers just starting to peek out from the thawing ground my vases have been given new life,
I used Distress Paint with Emerald Creek Embossing Powder to alter my vases & added some Emerald Creek Charms.

right now i am so addicted to using Sizzix Leather Paper!! with the Emerald Creek Dares challenge of anything goes, and this being National Tartan Day, i thought to myself what could i create to combine those two things.....
why it is a holder.. a holder you say???? yes.. jump on over to my site to see exactly what is being held in this

With the "Anything Goes" challenge and the release of the brand new Hammered Metal I knew that it would make a fantastic project. Combining Alcohol Ink and embossed surfaces create amazing grungy looking results. Head on over to my blog to find out how I created my piece.

Anything the beach! The nice weather has made me smile because it's beach time, to collect shells and driftwood and of course have an ice cream cone and take alot of pictures! I love the Starfish stamp from Emerald Creek. All the details are on my blog today.
