High Hopes... by Preeti

Hello! This year has been a year of musical inspiration for our challenges, taken from songs that are some of Kim's favourites. The theme for August's Dare is High Hopes! ANYTHING GOES as you unleash your creative talents for this challenge.   The song High Hopes by Panic! At the Disco goes out to everyone who might feel alone or that life is feeding them opposition. Kim says "Choose what you need and just go for IT! Know that you have what it takes to push up and come out on top." Click below to listen to this upbeat song, and share your project with us below for a chance to win!

Hi folks :) Good morning! For the August Challenge where the theme is "High Hopes" I have created a Grungy Mixed Media Art Journal Spread, titled, "In the Sky". The theme this month is so interesting & you are free to interpret it any way you like! I was inspired by dragons. Hence, I've used a dragon as my focal image here along with the colour red, which signifies fire. I think it is important to always stoke the fire of ambition within ourselves and follow our dreams

Here are some photos of the Art Journal Spread:

You can find the process details below!

Process:
1. Applied heavy white gesso to the art journal pages to prepare them for mixed media work
2. Created a collage on the pages using tissue papers & adhered them using collage medium
3. To add textures and interest, did background stencilling, by applying modelling paste through a Finnabair stencil onto both the pages, while the paste was still wet, sprinkled on Magical Mysteries Embossing Powder- Dragon's Egg & heat embossed it
4. Added red colour to the background by spraying with water and adding Starburst Squirts by Lindy's Gang. I let the colour flow naturally and dried the pages.
5. Then did background stamping with a couple of text stamps using black archival ink
6. Created die cuts (for layering) using thick cardstock and heat embossed them using Baked Texture Embossing Powder- Rustic Indigo
7. For the focal element, created a die cut dragon & heat embossed it using Baked Texture Embossing Powder- Blizzard
8. Adhered all the elements to the pages using a strong glue and added word stickers by 7 Dots Studio
9. In the end, distressed the edges of the pages with distress inks and created white & black ink splatter.

Thanks a lot for your precious time :)
Stay Blessed
