Rhinestone Cowboy... by Preeti

Hello! We are back with another fun project inspired by this month's theme. This year we are focusing on Kim's favourite songs for our Dare each month, and because July in Calgary is all about the big Stampede festivities, we want to see see what you create featuring Cowboys, Western, Bling, Paisley and Country - inspired by the Glen Campbell song linked below - Rhinestone Cowboy!

Rhinestone Cowboy

Hi folks :) Good morning! For the July Challenge where the theme is "Rhinestone Cowboy" I have created a Grungy Mixed Media Art Journal Spread, titled, "Shine Brightly". The theme this month is so interesting & you are free to interpret it any way you like! I was inspired by horses, cowboys, the horizon & the positive message in the "Rhinestone Cowboy" song. Hence, I've used inspirational quotes here.

Here are some photos of the Art Journal Spread:

1. Applied heavy white gesso to the art journal pages to prepare them for mixed media work
2. Created a collage on the pages using tissue papers & adhered them using collage medium
3. To add textures and interest, did background stencilling, by applying embossing ink- (versamark) through a dots stencil onto both the pages, then sprinkled on Baked Texture Embossing Powder- Chunky Rust (for the bottom half of the pages) and Baked Velvet Embossing Powder- Sedona (for the top of the pages) & heat embossed them
4. Then did background stamping with a couple of text stamps using embossing ink & heat embossed that with Aroma Embossing Powder- Just Java
5. Now for the focal element, applied embossing ink through a horse design stencil, sprinkled on Baked Texture Embossing Powder- Rocky Road & heat embossed it. This gave a gorgeous black textured look with bits of white & silver in it. Very cool!
6. Then to add colour to the pages, used a few shades of distress inks & splattered on the colours using a fan brush (for a grungy look)
7. Distressed the edges of the art journal pages with distress ink, doodled on a border with a black marker and did some mark making with the same marker all around the page.
8. Adhered quote stickers to the pages and did a little shading around them.
9. Added tiny bits of green to the bottom half of the pages using a brush marker.
10. In the end, created black and white splatter using watered down gesso.

Thanks a lot for your precious time :)
Stay Blessed
