Rhinestone Cowboy... by Cathy

Hello! We are back with another fun project inspired by this month's theme. This year we are focusing on Kim's favourite songs for our Dare each month, and because July in Calgary is all about the big Stampede festivities, we want to see see what you create featuring Cowboys, Western, Bling, Paisley and Country - inspired by the Glen Campbell song linked below - Rhinestone Cowboy!

Rhinestone Cowboy

Welcome everyone! It's the summer and folks are on vacation or going to a local fair - you might just see some cowboys while you're there! My cowboys are a little different than your average rhinestone cowboy!

These ATCs are super simple to do! I found some cowboy skulls and printed them onto white cardstock. Then, I grabbed my embossing pens and started filling them in!

To get an ombre color affect on the face, I just took dry embossing powder in a couple of colors and rubbed them around the face with my finger!

Once they're, embossed, cut them out and put them on your ATCs!

I used a variety of embossing powders and added a couple of trinkets as well - links are below!  I used rusty wire to hold the belt buckle onto the ATC. He's got a snazzy eyepatch and handkerchief!

This guy's got a gold grill and a fancy watch!

Thanks for stopping by the blog here at Emerald Creek! I hope you'll play along with us and do some shopping - we DARE you!

Hi everyone, the July Emerald Creek Dares Challenge is inspired by the song Rhinestone Cowboy. This month kicks off rodeo season in Calgary, and the team at Emerald Creek is hoping you bring the western bling, paisley, country, anything!

I have created three cards to celebrate the rodeo and showcase one of my favorite Emerald Creek embossing powders, oil rubbed bronze. All of the backgrounds were created using distress oxide inks blended to create the look of gorgeous summer sunsets. I used color palettes recommended by Kristina Werner Design.

The first card is fairly simple. When thinking about rodeo cowboys, I know that the season usually means traveling from venue to venue competing and showing off their skills. This seems perfectly suited to the "not all who wander are lost" chipboard compass piece from my stash. I started with a blended distress oxide background using chipped sapphire, peacock feathers and carved pumpkin inks. Once the background is complete, I coat the chipboard laser cut piece with embossing ink and cover it with a layer of oil rubbed bronze embossing powder. The powder is heat set and allowed to cool. I repeat the embossing process a second time to give an even coverage. When the embossing has cooled completely, I attach the piece to the card front.

The second card I have made uses a printable image of a fancy cowboy boot. I create another blended distress oxide background, this time using fired brick, ripe persimmon, and wild honey. A star in circle laser cut border piece is embossed with oil rubbed bronze embossing powder and is attached along the left side of the card front. Next, I print the boot image onto a piece of heavyweight card stock and then fussy cut it out. Using a VersaMark marker, I color one of the main interior sections of the boot and then coat that section with ancient amber baked texture embossing powder. I heat set the powder and then repeat the process for the other portions of the boot that are this color.

I color the trim and sole of the boot with marker, and then, using a water brush, I color the other areas of the boot with aged mahogany distress ink. The studs are embossed with oil rubbed bronze. When the boot is complete, it is attached to the card front with double sided adhesive tape.

The third and final card uses an Emerald Creek Horse Head stamp. I begin by creating a blended distress oxide background with blueprint sketch, wilted violet, picked raspberry, and squeezed lemonade. While I have the inks out, I stamp the horse head using the same colors, layering them as I did for the background. I use my heat tool to dry the stamped images and then cut them out with scissors. The horse head stamp is approximately one inch (1") square. I want the horse heads to mimic the background but also stand out. To achieve this, I cut nine, 1-1/4" squares. I emboss the edges of the squares with oil rubbed bronze, leaving the central area blank. The horse head squares are attached to the embossed edge squares using foam tape. Leaving the central area void of embossing makes it easier for the foam squares to adhere to the card stock. The layered squares are attached to the background in a grid pattern.

I hope that my trio of cards has inspired you to create something and join us in this month's challenge. We would love to see your rhinestone cowboy shine; enter the challenge if you dare!

As always, thank you so much for taking the time to stop by,
 I truly appreciate it!

Rhinestone Cowboy

Hello Dear Crafters! I'm here with my project for this month's Emerald Creek DARE Challenge Rhinestone Cowboy. I chose to grab an unfinished project, a scrapbook album from a trip we took to Colorado a few years ago. I chose to document some pictures of one of Buffalo Bill's carriages we saw in a local museum...Buffalo Bill...Rhinestone Cowboy....totally works right??

I used my Silhouette to cut some die cuts I thought would work for my photos and journaling. I used 3 different embossing powders to create the look I wanted on the die cuts and I think they turned out quite lovely!

I have a process video to share this month of my project as well

Have A Lovely Day!

Rhinestone Cowboy... New Monthly Dare and Challenge Winners!

Hello friends! Karla here to bring you a new month and a fabulous new challenge. This year we are focusing on Kim's favourite songs for our theme each month, and because Calgary is all about the big Stampede festivities this month, we want to see see what you create inspired by Cowboys, Western, Bling, Paisley and Country - inspired by the Glen Campbell song linked below - Rhinestone Cowboy!

Rhinestone Cowboy

For this challenge I'm sharing a cool cowboy-inspired card using some fun Emerald Creek goodies and a neat Color Burst Galaxy Background technique that I will be demoing on the next Facebook Live - Thursday July 4th at 10 am MST! If you haven't been following our weekly Lives on Thursdays at 10, you'll definitely want to set a reminder. We have tips, techniques, updates and giveaways.

I'm using some beautiful Boho Blends Lapis Lazuli embossing powder in the center of this cool Seth Apter star die. It reminded me of a sheriff's badge! I then used Charred Gold around the outside and Molten Dimension Black Magic for the outer ring.

I looked through my stash for a cowboy hat stamp and found one from a C Thru The Woods stamp set along with the sentiment below, which I embossed with Glacier White powder. I embossed the hat with Black Cherry powder and watercoloured it in with Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers before adding Pyrite Gemstones on the hat band with Matte Medium.

This card definitely puts me in the mood to share in the Calgary Stampede activities!

Here's a Mood Board to give you a few ideas to get you started!!

Thank so much for stopping by! Be sure to head over to the Emerald Creek Facebook Page for a Live Demo on Thursday July 4th at 10 am MST to see just how this card comes together. And don't forget to enter your own project below for a chance to win an awesome prize!!
