Singing In The Rain... by Katie

Hello friends! We are continuing our year of song themes, and our April Dare is to challenge you to create a project that is inspired by music, rain, water or the song below!

 Hi all
It is usually Spring in my part of the world but it is taking a while to warm up. We are having an unusually dry April at the moment. Anyway, here is my art journal entry for this month's theme.

 Tutorial:

Paint with gesso first and when it is nearly dry, paint on a light blue acrylic paint with a make up sponge.
Next layer up a few darker blue colours, just paint them on lightly so each colour isn't fully covered.

Stamp around the edges with a texture stamp and then use a stencil to apply a modeling paste through a stencil. Sprinkle on the Mermaid Fin Embossing Powder and then heat to set.

Stamp on the Carnation stamp in the corners of the pages and then stamp some out onto card.
Colour the flowers with watercolour paints and then cut them out so that they can be glued onto the page.
Add journaling to finish

Hello everyone and Happy Spring! This month's theme is something fun and uplifting! I did a journal page using the adorable Emerald Creek Happy Frog Cling Mount Stamp paired with a rainbow of embossing powders!  I went from this:

To this!

I embossed my frogs with Fractured Ice because I wanted something with a hint of color, yet see-through, so the details could be seen.  And my raindrops are a rainbow of goodness thanks to Seth Apter's new embossing powders!

After embossing. I added my watercolors and then drew around the drops with a paint pen. I then added my lyric!

It's a fun little journal page that's quite colorful for the Spring season! Thanks for stopping by the blog here at Emerald Creek - I hope you'll play along with us and do some shopping - we DARE you!

Hi everyone, today I am sharing "rainy day blues." This month's theme for the Emerald Creek Dares challenge is Singing In The Rain. Anything you want to create that has to do with music, rain showersor water would be perfect for the challenge. I love a good rainy day, the gray skies and raindrop sounds can be quite soothing. For this piece, I wanted to play on those feelings and really work with different blue colors, and of course, water.

I begin with an umbrella man die cut. The umbrella portion is coated with embossing ink and Seth Apter's Baked Velvet Eclipse embossing powder by Emerald Creek. When heated, this powder creates a fairly matte finish, that is such a gorgeous shade of black. I want the man to appear dry under the cover of his umbrella, so he is left un-embossed. When the umbrella has cooled, I draw lines with a glue pen where the water would run down the spines of the opened top, these are covered with Seth Apter's Deep Sea Baked Texture. When the glue has dried securing the embossing powder, I heat set it to a shining watery finish. The umbrella man is complete and is set aside so I can work on his setting.

Next I want to create the scene. To do this I use an architectural stamp. I stamp the image with archival ink and then I color it in with distress inks using a water brush.

Once the colored image is dry, I cut a piece of clear acetate to cover the image and its surround. I ink a waterdrops background stamp using VersaMark Ink. I stamp all areas of the clear acetate then sprinkle Agean Sea Baked Velvet (a beautiful translucent powder) over the page. I carefully heat set the powder to create the look of raindrops all over the page. This sheet will overlay the solid architectural image.

The umbrella man is attached to the water droplet sheet using collage medium. Beneath his feet, I use a VersaMark embossing pen to create the look of a puddle (a result of the umbrella shedding its water) and sprinkle more Aegean Sea powder, then heat set. At the top left and bottom right corners, I want to add something to ground the composition. To do this, I emboss two decorative chipboard pieces with Oil Rubbed Bronze Allure embossing powder. These add to the architectural feel of the design as well as create a framework to the piece.

When the embossing has cooled, the decorative corners are adhered to the acetate sheet with Distress collage medium. A thin piece of Sookwang adhesive along the left edge of the acetate secures it to the stamped page beneath. The entire composition is secured to a card base.

I hope that you are inspired to participate in the #ECAPRIL2019 challenge - we would love to see your interpretation of the theme Singing In The Rain. Join us if you dare.

Thank you so much for stopping by,
~Ann

Michelle Garrison was inspired by this month's challenge to use watercolor paper as her base for a gorgeous Artist Trading Card Trio! Watercolor paper is such a great base for many different projects. Follow along as she describes how she created these three lovely pieces of art.

1. Cut three artist trading cards using watercolor paper measuring 2-1/2”x 3-1/2"
2.Cut three 2” squares
3. Cut three 2”x 1” rectangles
4. Cover all three sets of cuts with embossing powders shown above and heat.
5. Glue on as shown.

7. Color three shades using watercolor, gelatos, or ink.
8. Stamp all 3 images with Seth Apter Baked Velvet Eclipse and heat.
9.  Cut images and adhere to center of cards using foam tape.

Trio was created simply using the Eagle & Sun Stamp.
Thank you for visiting ,

Singing In The Rain... by Sara

Hello Hello ! I'm so happy to be joining you today! When I thought about  this month's theme, "Singing In The Rain", I thought about what I like to do when it rains...craft of course! In the climate I live in, April means LOTS of rain, but it also means spring is here, and spring means butterflies. Soooo...I went with a fun wall hanging of a butterfly with lots of colors that remind me of spring rain!

My project started with a cut file. I cut it from heavy white cardstock on my Silhouette. I also cut a shadow layer to place behind my butterfly to make it POP off of my weathered wood plank.
Once I had my file cut, the fun can begin. I used my favorite embossing ink to ink up sections of my butterfly and applied lots of different embossing powders. I overlapped some and let them melt into each other. I applied two coats to areas that seemed a bit "thin". I just kept adding layers till I was happy with the results and no white showed.
(Embossing Powders used linked below)

Once I had my butterfly completely embossed, I adhered the butterfly to the shadow layer and then to the weathered wood plank. Now to add some final textural touches!

I added some of the fabulous natural stones from the shop to create details on the butterfly. (linked below)

Lastly, I watered down some heavy body acrylic paint and splattered on some for added effect.

Thank you so much for joining me today! I hope the next rainy day that comes your way inspires you to create something beautiful!

Have A Lovely Day!
Sara

Singing In The Rain... New Monthly Dare and Challenge Winners!

Hello friends! Karla here today to announce this month's theme - Singing In The Rain. This year we are focusing our challenges on some of Kim's favourite songs, and this month that song is Singing In The Rain from the 1952 movie with Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds. I still love watching these old movies and this is a great song!

Our April Dare is to challenge you to create a project that is inspired by rain, water, music... you get the idea! Click the link below to listen to this awesome song.

For this challenge I decided to create an alcohol inked background with an altered frame for my sister's birthday.

I started off by applying alcohol inks in various colours to Yupo paper, using a felt pad with an applicator to sponge some directly on the background and dropping some onto the paper. I added drips of Blending Solution in areas and really just continued until I liked the effect. I used Hammered Metal Embossing Powder to emboss the classic Tim Holtz umbrella man stamp and carefully embossed with my heat gun - being careful to not overheat.

I used Ranger Archival Inks in the new Tim Holtz colours to add flowers, a sentiment and music notes to the background. I lightly heated again to dry the ink.

For the frame I painted a wooden frame with Seth Apter's Butter Paint. I had originally created a mixed media frame, but I didn't feel like it matched the inside, so I painted over the whole thing! That's the great thing about paint, and it's always ok to start over if you're not happy.

I used a Tim Holtz stencil and added embossing ink through it with the Ranger Emboss It Dabber before adding Seth Apter's Baked Velvet Aegean Sea Embossing Powder. I love the flecks of blue in this gorgeous green powder!

I used the Tim Holtz Archival Inks to add music stamps to various areas of the frame.

I decided to remove the pink twine and replaced the painted heart with a plain heart from a button pack. I added sequins and gems to the background and frame with Ranger Matte Medium.

A little cork butterfly and some chipboard cloud stickers lighten everything up.

My sister absolutely loved her gift!

I can't wait to see what you come up with for this challenge ☔🌈🌧
